We are in the Ship of Death and Resurrection. When Christ dies, his living presence remains in the Eucharist in the sacrament of communion. It is for this reason that the central symbol of the final nave is the Host, which is represented in the glass sculpture of the altar. There are also two unequal and asymmetric plates on the floor, one on top of the other, which represent the detachment between the body and the soul at the moment of death. The purple color was used to illuminate its outline.
At the end of this Nave is the sculpture “La Pietá”, which was made by Master Miguel Sopo in 1955 to honor the indigenous people of this territory.
In it, we observe that the hands and feet are larger, representing the work of the indigenous people, and the features on the different faces represent those of the Muisca indigenous people who were the first to find salt in this place. The door of the main altar of the old Cathedral was moved in order to be preserved in memory of it: the first underground cathedral in the world. We return to the great entrance of the ship. In the background, the main access to the Ruta del Minero followed by the penitente tunnel and, to its left, we find the large green door brought from the previous cathedral.
Remember that here at the door of the Commercial Area, you will find the Orpheo stand for the return of your audio guide.
